Halflab's Watershed 14th Birthday Party — Sunday, May 24 As you know, it's been a dry year here in California. We at HALFLAB (the House Around Lisa, (Neil)Fred, Louise, And Brandon) want to do our part, so we're counteracting the drought with a wet and wild celebration of our household's 14th birthday, a watershed moment that will surely leave everything right as rain. While we hope our party will get us all out of hot water, we're not sure the idea is watertight. Nonetheless, the party will take place on Sunday, May 24, come hell or high water. There's no need to feel like a fish out of water, so please join us! At a Halflab event, nobody has to live on bread and water. You can wet your whistle with some firewater from our fully stocked wet bar, or stick to coconut water. We hope to offer a mouth-watering array of food, so don't be a wet blanket — share that treat you've been saving for a rainy day. Contributions such as watermelon, salt water taffy, watercress sandwiches, rainbow sherbet, water buffalo mozzarella, table water crackers, and water chestnuts will help the potluck reach a real high-water mark. Of course, if you consult the Low-Stress Potluck(*) rules and decide not to bring anything, that's water under the bridge, but don't be afraid to get your feet wet. Without fun conversation and activities, this party will be dull as dishwater, so come with ideas and equipment as well. Our backyard isn't suitable for water polo, and there's no waterslide, but you could enjoy some watercoloring or underwater basket weaving, throw water balloons, or do a rain dance (provided you're not suffering from water on the knee). Inside, Rock Band will have you singing in the rain. Or play a range of board and card games, so long as losing doesn't make you mad as a wet hen. Water you waiting for? Be here on May 24 to fight the drought with us, or you'll be all wet!
