the invitation, sent out monday, may 14:

Close Encounters of the Granite Kind - Sunday, May 27 at Halflab

Counter to what you might have believed, we here at HALFLAB -- the House Around Lisa, (Neil)Fred, Louise, And Brandon -- have not sworn off throwing parties that rock. To counteract that impression with a counterexample that's set in stone, we're inviting you to our house on Sunday, May 27.

We assure you, this invitation is no counterfeit. The Memorial Day weekend timing might seem counterintuitive and result in a rock hard "no" from some of you. If you have a counteroffer and can't make it, we understand. But we figured our unscheduled counterparts would appreciate us taking countermeasures against stone cold boredom.

Thanks to an entirely revamped enthusiasm for cooking around here, you'll encounter a wide, gleaming range of delicious food and a shiny fridge full of drinks. Leave the calorie counters at home and consider bringing a contribution to our Low-Stress Potluck(*), whether it's rock candy, stone fruit, or slabs of meat. To counterbalance all these tasty treats, you may want to play some Rock Band or go out in the back yard to spin counterclockwise. And if you get tired after all that, you're welcome to lie down under a counterpane.

By this point (or counterpoint) you must be thinking we've joined the counterculture, and it would be counterproductive for us to provide a counterargument to that theory. No, we haven't taken too much over-the-counter medication, but it will be a while before we're over the counters in our newly remodeled kitchen. We hope you can join our encounter group on Sunday, May 27 to see for yourself.
