the invitation, sent out thursday, december 18:

HALFLAB Party to Celebrate the Passage of Time

It seems that time has a tendency to pass. And don't you think it's about time someone did something about it? Not so much "did something to stop it", mind you, just "did something about it". If HALFLAB stands for one thing, it stands for "House Around Lisa, Fred, Louise, And Brandon". No, wait. What I mean is, if Halflab stands for one thing, it stands for the right of The People to celebrate the passage of time almost as often as time is found to pass. Well, okay, we probably stand for other things too.

In any case, come on down to Halflab on December 31st. We guarantee that time will pass or your money back. (No guarantees on how much or how little time will pass while you are at Halflab.) Ways in which The People will celebrate time passing may include (but are not limited to): eating, drinking, chatting, gaming, eating, juggling, hot-tubbing, eating, and general merry-making. Some equipment appropriate for such activities will be made available by Halflab, but you are also encouraged to bring additional such supplies, including (but not limited to) food, beverages, games, props, towels, etc. Any interesting holiday gifts you received might be fun for show and tell too. Thematic edibles, attire, and information earn bonus points.

Like past Halflab parties, this is a No-Stress Potluck(*), so you are encouraged but not required to bring food that others may enjoy. However, if as a group The People take this lack of stress imposition to its logical extreme by bringing nothing but their cheerful selves, we may at some point find that we need to start imposing more stress for future parties! So consider yourselves warned. But do also bear in mind that the foregoing statements should not be construed as stress-imposing at this time.

Time will begin passing at 7:00pm. Okay, maybe it will have already begun before then, it's hard to say. But that's when the festivities shall begin. Feel free to show up before or after midnight -- an arbitrary point at which some amount of time will have passed -- as the party will doubtless continue until quite a bit more time has passed beyond that. Also feel free to bring along any friends, sweeties, children, pets, or other time-witnessing entities.

Sending RSVPs (probabilistic or otherwise) by email to us (at) halflab (dot) com is a reasonable thing to do, bearing in mind that such information is time-sensitive, and thus serves a good deal less purpose if sent after the festivities have completed. At the very least, when sent after the fact, all probabilities given should be 0 or 1.
